Kigali — AMAVUBI Stars' skipper Olivier Karekezi has been acknowledged for his contributions to his club and country over the past year.
Goal.com named Karekezi on its long list of African players, who were outstanding for their countries during 2008. The 26-year-old with 44 caps for Rwanda played a key part in helping Amavubi reach the third and final qualifying round of the 2010 World/ Africa Nations Cup.
The Ham Kam attacking midfielder, who has been linked with a move to Egyptian side Al Ahly, finished as joint top -scorer for Amavubi in the second round after netting three goals along with Saidi Abedi.
After a mediocre show in the third and final qualifying round, the player is eager to revitalize his professional career by joining Al Ahly.
Other players honored for their tremendous roles include; Cameroonian forward Sameul Eto'O Fils, Tunisian Oussama Darragi (Esperance Sportive de Tunis), Evans Chikwaikwai (Njube Sundowns), Ivorian Yaya Toure (Barcelona), Senegalese Souleymane Diawara who has been incredible for Girondins de Bordeaux, Tanzanian Mwinyi Kazimoto who features for Ruvu's Shooting Stars and Kenya's Macdonald Mariga who plays for Parma.
In South Africa, Bernard Parker has been recognized for having scored seven goals for Bafana Bafana and has even been tipped as the new Benni McCarthy.
