Angola: Minister Calls for Wise Management of Public Buses

9 July 2009

Malanje — The Angolan Transport minister, Augusto Tomás, Wednesday in northern Malanje province, called on the operators that benefited from the hundred buses fleet to run them wisely.

Speaking at the ceremony of hand-over of the buses, the official recalled that the buses are creating thousands of direct and indirect jobs, hence the reason for their responsible use.

He appealed to the benefiting firms to appropriately run the means placed at their disposal, in line with the regulations in force in the country, with road traffic code, technical assistance, maintenance and respect for the passengers on the part of drivers and conductors.

Augusto Tomás added that the functioning of the awarded buses will bring Malanje closer to its districts and other provinces of the country, and that trade between the rural areas and the city will have improved.

On the other hand, the minister appealed to the provincial government to conclude the region's transport steering plan, in view of the fact that the train will reach the province soon.

In his turn, Malanje governor, Boaventura Cardoso, said the buses will help lessen the constraints in the transportation of people and goods facing the region.

Of the hundred buses Malanje has just received, 40 will be used in inter-urban routes, 30 in inter-district and 30 in inter-provincial.
