10 July 2009

The Cameroon People's Democratic Movement (CPDM) member of parliament for Bui South (Jakiri) constituency, Hon. Wirngo Buba Kibo believes that "education is the foundation of all other professions and of a sound human society". It is with this firm conviction in mind that Hon.

Wirngo who was the Senior Prefect of the then Government High School -Kumbo in the 1988-89 academic year, has been using a greater part of the parliamentary micro-projects grants to boost educational standards in Jakiri Subdivision. He has focused on nursery, primary, secondary and high schools in his constituency.

Hon. Wirngo's major support to education came on May 18-20, 2009 when he donated 700 high-quality benches estimated at 21 million CFA francs by government standards to schools in the constituency. The ceremony at the Jakiri Grandstand was witnessed among others by the Sub-divisional Officer for Jakiri, Konge Hardison and the Mayor of Jakiri Council, Shang Lawrence. The beneficiaries of the benches included 21 Government Primary Schools, 19 Catholic Primary Schools, seven Islamic Primary Schools, four Presbyterian Primary Schools, four Baptist Primary Schools and 13 secondary and technical schools (government, mission and private colleges).

Besides the donation of benches, the Jakiri parliamentarian, holder of a Masters Degree in Political Science, has single-handedly been constructing classrooms. The list, he said, include six classrooms in Islamic Primary School-Ntur and the repair of the roof of Islamic Primary School -Nui blown off by wind. The CPDM member of parliament, who also doubles as Vice President of the Bui IV (Jakiri) CPDM Section, said he has equally given scholarships and prizes to pupils in nursery and primary schools. Other projects carried out by Hon. Wirngo are the construction of bridges at Kwa-nso and Kovwong quarter in Jakiri town, contribution of 400,000 CFA francs and concrete for the construction of the Jakiri Grandstand as well as assistance to different village development associations.

The Jakiri population will soon benefit from ongoing projects. Their representative in parliament said he was constructing three classrooms in Islamic Primary School -Wainamah, two classrooms at Government Primary School- Kinsenjam, classroom in Government Nursery School-Ran that are all at roofing level. He said four classrooms were also being completed in Government Secondary School-Wainamah, while the two classrooms he is building in Government Technical College-Jakiri were at the foundation level.
