Four Township Rollers players are in South Africa for trials at First Division Inland Stream side, Pretoria University.
Rollers' chairman, Spencer Mmui told Mmegi Sport that Edwin Moalosi, Aubrey Kebonnetse, Edwin Olerile and Monageng Thaele will spend two weeks with the side that reached the Nedbank Cup finals last season. Another Rollers' player, Boitumelo Mafoko is attending trials at Engen Santos, coached by David Bright of Botswana.
Despite their precarious position in the league, Mmui said Rollers would never stand in the players' way if the right opportunity comes.
He said it is refreshing to see Rollers' players attracting the attention of foreign clubs.
"We always consider the players' welfare first even if the club finds itself in a precarious situation," Mmui said.
Pretoria University is where former Rollers' player, Phenyo 'Mzambia' Mongala received rave reviews for his outstanding displays during the Nedbank Cup. His exploits are believed to have landed him a lucrative contract with Soweto giants, Orlando Pirates although the move is shrouded in controversy.
Meanwhile, Mmui said Rollers is in constant contact with Santos regarding Mafoko. He said the Cape side requested more time to have a look at the holding midfielder in a match situation.
The five players will miss the Saturday derby between Rollers and Gaborone United (GU) but Mmui said they have a pool of players who are capable of doing the job. He said the team has not been doing well largely because luck deserts them in front of goal and not because of lack of quality. He said the absence of several key players from Rollers' starting line up in the past few games is proof that the club is laden with quality. He urged supporters to be patient with coach Rahman Gumbo as there is no doubt that he is a good mentor. Mmui quashed rumours that they would give title contenders, GU, the game on a silver platter to undermine the challenge of defending champions, Mochudi Centre Chiefs. He said they have a score to settle with the log leaders who beat them 3-2 in the first round.
