Jinja — The German Ambassador to Uganda, Mr Reinhard Buchholz, has praised the government's commitment towards education of children.
He said, while on a trip to eastern Uganda, that he was impressed with the budgetary allocation to the Universal Primary and Secondary Education sectors in the 2009/10 budget.
The government allocated over Shs1 trillion to the education sector, the second biggest for any sector after works.
The diplomat was in Kamuli on Monday to commission a two-classroom block for St Stephen Nawanyago Primary School, where construction was sponsored by the Germany government.
Flanked by the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Ms Rebecca Kadaga, Mr Buchholz said children have a right to education.
"An uneducated child to me is more or less like a prisoner, and it is the reason we are making a contribution to education using our (embassy) limited funds," Mr Buchholz said.
