Nico United forward and be MOBILE Premier League leading striker, Master Masitara has joined Mozambican top flight side, Liga Mulcumana for a reported P300,000, Mmegi Sport can exclusively reveal. Mulcumana officials flew into Gaborone yesterday to seal the deal with Nico chairman, Kitso 'Jomo' Nkoborwane.
It was not immediately clear if Masitara would jet out to join his new teammates before the end of be Mobile Premier League. Nico is left with three games before the season ends and Masitara has been influential in the side's quest to avoid relegation.
Nico spokesperson, Matlhale Malepa said their intention is to release the Zimbabwean striker at the end of the season, but much depended on what the two clubs agreed on yesterday.
"We wanted to release him at the end of the season but that depends on what was agreed during (yesterday's) negotiations. The chairman will be in a better position to answer you on the details of the deal," Malepa said. Efforts to get a comment from Nkoborwane proved futile as his mobile phone was off at press time.
However, sources close to the deal said the player would immediately leave to join his new club as the Mozambicans insisted on having him before the end of the season.
Masitara who has enjoyed a good spell since his arrival from Zimbabwe two seasons ago, leads the goal scorer's charts with 28 goals, four ahead of nearest rival, Moemedi 'Jomo' Moatlhaping of Mochudi Centre Chiefs.
He walked away with the Golden Boot Award in his debut season, scoring 18 goals and is virtually assured of a second title as Moatlhaping is currently serving a suspension.
The speedy forward was signed from Zimbabwe's Railstars by then Nico coach and compatriot, Madinda Ndlovu.
Masitara's deal would be a blow to defending league champions, Mochudi Centre Chiefs and debutants, Motlakase who were after his signature.
A possible return to Zimbabwe was also said to be in the offing. Mulcumana is based in the Mozambique capital Maputo and has a number of foreign players from Mauritius and Zimbabwe.
