Zambia: Bandits Kill Two People in Lusaka

8 July 2009

ARMED robbers have killed two people in Lusaka in separate incidents in George and Kuku townships, Lusaka Province commanding officer Greenwell N'guni has said.

The George Township incident happened around 22:00 hours after the robbers, who were armed with an unknown type of firearm, attacked a group of charcoal traders and demanded to be given money.

Mr N'guni said in an interview in Lusaka yesterday that one of the traders who attempted to resist the robbery was shot and died on the way to the University Teaching Hospital.

He said the criminals got away with an undisclosed amount of money and police were looking for them.

In the Kuku Township incident, Mr Nguni said the man was killed after he attempted to disarm an armed robber who was in a group which staged a robbery at a shop.

He said the incident happened on Sunday night after the robbers staged a robbery and demanded to be given money.
