Angola: Stadiums for Can2010 No Longer a Concern - Organising Body

Luanda — After having assessed on Saturday the progress of the works in the provinces of Huíla and Benguela, the delegation of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), led by the chairperson of the organisation, Issa Hayatou, visited to the stadiums of Chiazi (Cabinda province) and of Camama (Luanda), having considered the construction works as satisfactory.

This was said by the spokesperson of the Organising Committee of the African Cup of Nations (COCAN), Manuel Mariano.

"At the moment stadiums are no longer a concern for us. We received assurances from the CAF chief that he is pleased with what he saw and we are better at rest", he stressed.

He stated that at the moment the COCAN is focussed on the holding of the draw, November 20, and on the opening ceremony (January 10, 2010).

According to the source, CAF's chairperson believes that the deadlines of the construction works shall be met and that Angola will successfully host the African Cup of Nations (CAN2010).

Issa Hayatou is continuing this Monday with his agenda in the country, where he shall be received by the prime minister, Paulo Kassoma, and the ministers of Youth and Sports, and of Public Works, Gonçalves Muandumba and Higino Carneiro, respectively.

The CAF delegation will leave the country on Tuesday. Prior to their departure, the delegation will grant a press conference to assess the activities carried out in Angola.
