THE Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has welcomed the new anti-corruption measures announced by President Rupiah Banda during the last Press conference.
In a statement in Lusaka yesterday, ACC chairperson Valentine Chileshe said that the commission was encouraged by the Government's anti-corruption measures.
"I welcome the president's statement of commitment to fighting corruption with renewed vigour and financial support to the ACC. It is essential that political will in fighting corruption anywhere in the world, is not only preached but also matched with actions and demonstrated through adequate funding to the institutions," Mr Chileshe said.
The ACC was happy with the establishment of a serious frauds investigations unit that would deal with complex cases of corruption.
Mr Chileshe said that establishment of an independent financial intelligence unit would further assist in collecting intelligence information that would be used in tracking down perpetrators of financial crimes and ensure that the finance and bank regulations were adhered to.
"The National Anti-Corruption Policy to be launched soon by the president is one such avenue that the commission will use to achieve financial discipline, bring about prudent public service delivery systems and guard against the abuse of resources in both the public and private sector," Mr Chileshe said.
