Ghana: Hearts Lift Prez Cup

Accra Hearts of Oak last night ended their recent not-too-impressive performance by defeating Eleven Wise 5-4 in a dramatic penalty shootout to lift the much-publicized President's Cup at the Ohene Djan Stadium.

After a pulsating 1-1 draw, the game went straight into the penalty shootout, according to the rules of the competition. And after both sides failed to prove superior over the other, in the first set of spot kicks, scoring three goals apiece, it traveled to the sudden death segment.

Substituted Eric Gawu, who cancelled Wise Winfred Dormon's lead in regulation time, attracted all the attention when his kick was to determine who carries the day.

Luckily, he took a perfect shot to beat substitute goalkeeper Baba Sampana, who had a good evening.

The well-arranged program saw the vice President John Draman Mahama and a high powered government dignitaries in attendance, and presented medals and the trophy to the winners as well as the runner ups.
