One Corporal Amadou Bojang, a.k.a BC, was laid to rest after having been hit by a vehicle in fatal accident at the New Yundum/Coastal Road junction on Friday, 26 June, 2009.
Colleagues, friends, neighbours and family members paid their last respect to the late Corporal Bojang at his family in New Yundum.
According to eye witnesses, Cpl. Bojang met his untimely death whilst standing on the roadside waiting for a transport to take him to work, when two vehicles coming from the opposite directions collided and one of which strayed and knocked him down. He was said to have been rushed to the Royal Victoria Teaching Hospital (RVTH) in Banjul where he was admitted. He died the following day.
Speaking at the funeral, Lt. Colonel Yankuba Drammeh, Chief of Army Staff, described Cpl. Bojang as a soldier who was obedient, respectful and dedicated to duty. The Army Chief of Staff said the news of the demise of Cpl. Bojang was received with shock and disbelieve by the entire army. He said it is a great loss to them.
For his part, the Alkalo of New Yundum, Mr. Ousman Bojang, described the late army corporal as a good and religious person.
Other speakers include the Imam Ratif of New Yundum who also expressed similar sentiments.
Cpl. Bojang is said to be survived by four children.
