Uganda: Trading Sluggish at the Bourse

Kampala — TRADING at the Uganda Securities Exchange (USE) picked up on Tuesday after a dismal performance at start of the trading week.

The day's total turnover went up to sh71.8m from sh25.2m on Monday which compares to sh12.4m recorded the previous Tuesday.

The Uganda Clays Ltd (UCL) counter dominated Tuesday's trading with a substantial 550,965 shares exchanging hands with a turnover of sh44m at sh80 per share, the same price it traded last Tuesday. An equally high amount of outstanding offers of 802,155 were recorded against 26,175 bids on the UCL counter.

Stanbic's counter traded 86,550 shares fetching a total turnover of sh13.3m at sh160 per ordinary share. While it was a gain of sh5 compared to Monday's session, it is the same price it traded a week ago.

During the trading session, Stanbic's counter recorded outstanding bids of 129,429 against 401,592 offers.

Over 36,000 Equity shares were traded fetching a total turnover of sh14.4m at a cost of sh420 per share. There was a loss of sh35 compared to sh455 per share it traded a week ago.

There was no trading at the rest of the counters with EABL and JHL holding steady at sh3,907 and sh3506 per share respectively. A total number of bids for 67 Kenya Airways shares were put forward but there were no buyers. There were 1,000 outstanding offers for KCB shares and 75,000 New Vision shares on sale with no buyers.

On the Bank of Baroda counter, there were 10,239 outstanding offers for shares while DFCU had 1,006 shares on sale with no buyers.

The bourse's all share index recovered to788.98 from 765.68 with a market capitalization standing at sh7, 684b.
