Luanda — An Angolan delegation, headed by the minister of Foreign Affairs, Assunção dos Anjos, Sunday left for Libya, to participate at the 13th ordinary session of the African Union, taking place from 30 June to 3 July, in Sirtes city.
Speaking to press at the 4 de Fevereiro International Airport, ambassador Nelson Cosme explained that at the summit there will be debated socio-economic and political issues facing the continent.
According to the source, the regional body's Council of Ministers will be held on July 01 and the Summit of Heads of State and Government will take place on July 3.
At the meeting, African Council of Common Defence will become an organ of the African Union, whose functions will be defined in conformity with the protocol to be drafted for this purpose.
African Union (AU) was funded in 2002 and is the regional body that replaced the Organisation of the African Unity.
The AU assists in the promotion of democracy, human rights and development of Africa, specially in the increase of foreign investments through the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD).
Its first president was the former head of State of South Africa, Thabo Mbeki.
