Sierra Leone: Another Cabinet Reshuffle?

Ibrahim Tarawallie

25 June 2009

An authoritative source within the corridors of State House has disclosed to Concord Times that president Ernest Bai Koroma is putting papers together to announce what he called 'a shocking cabinet reshuffle'.

The source said the reshuffle has long been planned but was put on hold because of the ruling All People's Congress, APC convention in Makeni.

He said the president, who recently returned from a trip to Nigeria, summoned an emergency cabinet meeting yesterday to discuss other important and pressing issues.

"Ministers were informed late on Tuesday night for the meeting. The president is not happy with some of his ministers. It is clear that he is going to make a reshuffle that will not please those that will be affected," the source said.

He added that the reshuffle will be shocking news to ministers as prominent names are destined to face the president's axe when the list finally comes out any time soon.

"The president failed to do a big shake up because he needed some of the ministers to support him during the recent APC convention in Makeni. It is the prerogative of the president to make cabinet reshuffle as long as it is in line with the country's constitution," he maintained.

When contacted, Press Secretary to the president, Sheka Tarawallie told Concord Times that the president has the right to reshuffle his cabinet when he thinks it was necessary.

"It is his prerogative. He makes decision when he thinks it is right. He always looks at the mood of the people before making any decision," Tarawallie said.

Hopefully, Abdul Serry-Kemal will be replaced as Minister of Justice and Attorney-General. We all know there’s a great deal of corruption in the legal profession in Sierra Leone. But it is very sad that lawyers like Serry Kemal and Mohamed Pa-Momo Fofanah collaborate with tenants to ruin the reputation of the legal profession further. Mohamed Pa-Momo Fofanah’s role in cases involving him drawing up fake Deeds transferring properties to tenants, tragically presenting these bogus documents to be registered and notoriously presenting them in court is incredible. This undeniably brings the profession into disrepute.

The SOUPIST STRUCTURE is comprehensive and corrosive; it structures every interaction in which it is operative.

The legal profession cannot, therefore, escape its reach: no institution, not to mention personalities therein, is immune from the toxic mojo of the SOUPIST STRUCTURE.

Accordingly, the following institutions are regimented by the SOUPIST STRUCTURE: THE EXECUTIVE, THE LEGISLATURE, THE JUDICIARY, and, manifestly, THE PRESS, which is the most jocular corruption enabler in soupist Sierra Leone.

What a mess!

Sadly, no one, not even "God," can "reshuffle" a soupist cabinet to serve a non-existent 'national interest', for the soupist vermin is, absent radical… [Read Full Text]
