Tunisia: 130 Tunisian Athletes to Take Part in 2009 Pescara Mediterranean Games

Tunis — The Tunisian delegation which will take part in the 16 th edition of the Mediterranean Games, hosted by the Italian city of Pescara will comprise 213 people among whom 130 athletes who will be competing in 17 sports disciplines, football; handball, volleyball, athletics, balls and petanque , cycling, gymnastics, golf, judo, karate, swimming, boxing, fencing, weightlifting, shooting and handisports.

46 athletes will compete in collective sports and 84 in individual sports. The Pescara Mediterranean Games are also an important stage in preparing for the 2012 London Olympic Games, as they will enable young Tunisian athletes to measure up with more seasoned competitors.

In swimming, Tunisia will be represented by a team of 8 swimmers led by Oussama Mellouli, Tunisia's Olympic champion and the holder of 3 Olympic medals at the Almeria 2006 Mediterranean Games.

The Tunisia judo champion and the recent winner of a gold medal at the Tunis International Judo Grand Prix, Anis Chedly will also aim for gold in Pescara.
