Freetown — Top members of PMDC party have reportedly scolded their embattled leader and lodged formal complaints with the political parties' registration commission over what they described as "gross political illegality and malpractices within the party."
Regional scribe Western Area of the Peoples Movement for Democratic Change Festus Kpukumu, organizing secretary east David Sama, and financial secretary north Abdul Sidiyankay Kanu have already filed in their complaint against Charles Francis Margai to the commission and were awaiting response.
According to them, the party's leadership continues to disregard rules and regulations governing the party.
"At a national council meeting in Freetown, on Saturday October 18, 2008, a proposal was made by the national publicity secretary to defer the elections of the party leadership until 2011. It was decided that a consultative meeting be convened in Makeni to discuss the merits and demerits of the proposal. Regional, district and constituency chairpersons of the party were not informed of the elections to be conducted; some were informed only a week to the meeting. We strongly believe that the process was an effort to violate the constitution and disenfranchise the electorates, the entire voting process was primitive and in contravention of the provisions of the PMDC constitution," they said in a statement.
The complainants also stated that during the consultative meeting in Makeni there was a lot of mismanagement and outright political intimidations against delegates.
"We view the blatant abuse and misuse of the party constitution as an affront to the good democratic practice in Sierra Leone," they concluded.
Meanwhile regional chairman of PMDC north Bai Sama Sankoh has been asked out of office for alleged financial misappropriations.
According to PMDC regional secretary north Abdul Kalokoh, the decision was collectively reached after they realized that Bai Sankoh has failed to account for funds and logistics entrusted to him on behalf of the party.
"I am directed to inform you that due to some anomalies reportedly carried out by the regional chairman north Bai Sama Sankoh, the district chairman and secretary have collectively resolved to pass a vote of no confidence in the leadership of Bai Sama Sankoh. Also he has failed to report accordingly for funds and logistics entrusted to him for the region," Kalokoh said, adding that the poor coordination in the region is as a result of Sankoh's failure to perform in the region.
