Freetown — Coordinator of the local non-governmental organization, Children Associated with the war (CAW), Tuesday called on government to help needy students undergoing skills training in their institution with much needed logistics.

Addressing volunteers from Canada, Abu Juma Jusu said lots of efforts have been made to ensure that street children are taken off the streets and cared for and for female young girls to be self reliant.

Hyacinth Mason, a volunteer from Canada said she was impressed during her visit to the home to learn that CAW was capacitating Sierra Leoneans to be self reliant. She said such activities will put the organization on government's focus for more assistance.

According to the volunteer, the organization's activities place it as a humanitarian aid to the people. She said as a tourist in the country, she has heard a lot about what the organization is doing to help the needy to be self-reliant.

Olamide Coker, a Sierra Leonean living in Canada, lauded the work the organization is doing to maximize the welfare of the needy.

She promised to facilitate the establishment of the school of hospitality to help more people in need from dropping out of the school.

One of the social workers of CAW, Mohamed Siaka commended the efforts made by the volunteers for visiting the home, and for being very instrumental to the cause of the needy.

He said CAW has relentlessly provided support to many students, who today are independent in different walks of life.

Mohamed A.S. Conteh, a teacher in the tailoring department, said the entire staff of CAW appreciate the visit of the volunteers and only hope that they will meet the needs of the organization.

He disclosed that there are only few sowing machines that provide practical training to students. He on behalf of the organisation called on NGOs and the government to help them with more machines.

Fatmata Fofanah, a final year student in the tailoring department said the home is well known for helping the needy, but that there is still need to have more logistics for the smooth running of the institution.
