Bauchi — The Vice President, Goodluck Jonathan has expressed happiness after inspecting facilities in Bauchi, preparatory to the final inspection visit of World Soccer governing body, FIFA for the hosting of the U-17 World Soccer Championship by Nigeria this year.
The vice president made the remarks after inspecting renovation works at the main bowl of the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium,training pitches and Hotels, in continuation of his inspection visit to all the designated venues for the U-17 world cup where he expressed satisfaction with the pace of work. He called on the contractors to put more efforts and ensure that work was completed on schedule to meet FIFA deadline and standard.
The VP also said that the Federal Government is serious about hosting the championship and will do everything humanly possible to ensure that all FIFA requirements were met by the hosting states, because according to him, the LOC is in regular contact with the officials of FIFA on what to do before the final inspection visit next month.
On the Bauchi stadium, he said that with the way work is progressing the stadium may be ready for the championship before August this year.He then promised that the Federal Government will come to the aid of all states in order to ensure that such facilities were upgraded to FIFA standard irrespective of who owns the stadium.
Also commenting,the Bauchi state Governor,Malam Isa Yuguda assured that his administration will do everything possible to ensure that the facilities were made ready in conformity with FIFA standard.
Gov. Isa Yuguda, too, expressed satisfaction with the pace of work at all the venues, though he said that more pressure will be put on the contractor to deliver the completed projects in good time before the championship proper.He however declined to give the total financial commitment on the renovation work until after its completion.
