Uganda/Tanzania: Teams Cry Foul Over Referees

Vision Reporters

6 January 2009

Kampala — TEAMS are not contented with the level of refereeing in the on-going CECAFA tournament. Tanzania head the disgruntled group with the Kilimanjaro Stars arguing that something should be urgently done to rescue the tournament.

Stars cite several anomalies in their match against Zanzibar which they claim had only 75 minutes of actual play because of bad refereeing.

In a statement issued on Monday, Tanzania's head of delegation Amir Roshan appealed to the organisers to replace referees Ali Malim (Somalia), Felican Kabanda (Rwanda), Charles Mpagariste (Burundi) and standby referee Dennis Batte from Uganda.

Kenya's coach Francis Kimanzi accused referee Ali Kalyango of double standards during their game against Djibouti. Kimanzi, who was sent off during the game, argued that he should have been cautioned first like the referee had excused the Djibouti keeper before.
