Zimbabwe: Former Transit Crew Duo Make Breakthrough

7 January 2009

Harare — FORMER Transit Crew lead vocalist, Mic Inity - real name Mike Madamombe - appears to have hit the ground running after being weaned by the reggae outfit.

He has been causing quite a stir in nightspots in and outside Harare.

The inimitable chanter, whose style can be likened to that of Luciano -- left Transit Crew together with backing vocalist Junior Banton and the duo seem to have made a breakthrough.

To affirm their great artistry, the pair has been wowing reggae lovers with a series of sold out gigs in such up-market nightspots as Sports Diner, M60, Sports Diner and even Jazz 105.

At a time when Mic is on fire, a local nightspot, M60 -- formerly The Maze decided to give him a Monday slot.

His counterpart Banton has also been accorded another slot on Thursday.

In an interview, Godwin Maturure, the entertainment manager at M60 said they had decided to give the two reggae crooners some slots after some serious considerations.

"At the moment, all the attention seems to have shifted to reggae and I would love to see the genre expand and go places.

"As a result we have decided to contract these guys on permanent basis after the realisation that they are simply making heat waves and who does not want to be associated with the best?" he asked.

Transit Crew is also making waves at the Book Café.
