Harare — THE 2008 Miss Tourism Zimbabwe winners will only receive their prizes in the first quarter of the year, the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority said yesterday.

Zimbabwe Tourism Authority chief executive officer Mr Karikoga Kaseke said his organisation would organise a proper prize giving ceremony like they did last year.

"We don't have a specific date as to when are we going to give prizes to the winners, but it should be in the first quarter of the year.

"It therefore means that the time frame is between January and the end of March because we would love to make it a big occasion," he said.

Kaseke assured modelling enthusiasts that the organisation would honour the promises they made at the Harare International Conference Centre.

"We are definitely going to honour our promises and we still have faith in our sponsors that they will not let us down.

"Since we took over the contest in recent years, the pageant has grown from strength to strength and the pageant has become a brand that modeling enthusiasts cherish.

"Our previous queens have also excelled from the days of Lorraine Maphala, then Caroline Marufu before Cynthia Muvirimi took over the reigns and most recently Vanessa Sibanda," he said.

For winning the 2008 crown, Vanessa won herself US$18 000 prize money, a record prize in the history of the contest.

Vanessa, who is also a holder of class 4 drivers' licence, is expected to get a Mercedes Benz C200 for use during her reign as one of the packages for clinching the title.

She takes over from the United Kingdom-based Cynthia Muvirimi as the queen and will represent Zimbabwe at the Miss World 2009 contest.

Other winners at he contest include Sharon Razzle who was voted First Princess while Happiness Tshuma was the Second Princess with Cleopatra Ncube emerging Miss Personality.

Since this was a tourism pageant the top five including Lynn Williams another hot favourite and Sharon Dube will be working closely with the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority.

The 2007 winners Muvirimi and First Princess Avril Mhembere have been working with ZTA while Second Princess Sibusisiwe Dube refused to be attached with ZTA owing to her pressing commitments.
