Liberia: President Sirleaf's New Year's Message

31 December 2008

Monrovia — President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has urged Liberians at home and abroad to join her in a recommitment to the ongoing reform process, critical to the renewal of the nation. In a year end message, the President said Government's Poverty Reduction Strategy (PRS), otherwise known as 'Lift Liberia,' can succeed through the participation, contribution and involvement of every citizen.

"We can achieve national unity through the reconciliation efforts of each of us. We can improve the lives of all through caring and sharing by each of us," an Executive Mansion release quotes the Liberian leader in her New Year's message. The President assured Liberians and foreign partners that her administration will leave no stone unturned to achieve the goals set out in the development of the country as the nation dedicates 2009 the year of "Lifting Liberia."

President Johnson Sirleaf described the on-going celebration during this holiday season as one of the best in recent years despite the isolated incidences that brought sorrow to some citizens. The Liberian leader expressed particular satisfaction that smiles have again returned to the faces of thousands of the country's children whose hope in their future has been restored.

I'm not suggesting a permanent tax relief, but atleast 3years tax relief to allow liberians abroad to export items that are so needed in Liberia.

Your suggestion is quite in place but not every Liberian abroad has has this "Good Samaritan Heart" to care for the people when they bring these vital items to Liberia. Instead of selling cheap to the people, they will rather give their consignments to Lebanese,Indians and other Traders to sell at higher prices to the populace.Such can be negociated with the Ministry of Commerce. It is true now, for every Liberian to join in the Human and Nation Building. Try and organize a Liberian-US-Diasporas meeting to collectively present this idea to the Government. I believe,my President, your President' and our President Mama… [Read Full Text]

It's so scaring to really make contributions from overseas when families and friends cannot be trusted. You are ripped off and poisoned if possible, when you try to make some investments. Our people need to be educated in this regard.

Right so...The poisoning and the black magics are active practices all over Africa. In Liberia , the situation is even worse with the Dictatorship of the Americo Liberians at the best and their Black Racist State) , now since the Blacks got in power in America... We will live an see how far they can go. The concept of development must be defined in whose benefit, at such...Shame on the Chinese that help to keep such regime in power...
