Owerri — Imo State government has threatened to summarily sack from the state school system, any teacher that refuses or neglects to report to his/her new place of posting.
The Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Comfort Chinwe Chukwu, who read the riot act in an interview, also said that government was irked by the attitude of some of the teachers that were recently posted to other schools.
"Government has observed with dismay that some of the teachers recently posted out of their former schools have refused or neglected to report to their new places of posting. Government will not tolerate this and it is only hoped that the affected teachers will not push government into taking drastic disciplinary measures against them", the Commissioner said.
She however added a caveat that those of them that have genuine reasons for refusing to report to their new places of posting, can forward such matters to her office, stressing that all such cases would be treated on merit.
Mrs. Chukwu wondered why teachers should reject posting to schools in especially the rural communities where their services are needed but rather prefer to run back to Owerri.
She directed the Secondary education Management Board (SEMB) to take stock of those that have refused their postings adding that those who refused to comply by the end of November 2008 will have their salaries stopped.
