Nigeria: Be Role Models, Parents Told

Lagos — Parents have been urged to pay more attention to the upbringing of their children and serve as role models to them.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of SMI Motivational Centre, Pastor Nelson Ayodele, who gave this advice, at the 13th Annual Speech/Prize Giving ceremony of Dansol International High School, Agidingbi, Ikeja said this would ensure their well being for an all round development of the country.

He berated parents who abandon their responsibilities to the school and the society at large and urged them to assist their children in becoming worthy leaders.

Ayodele stressed the need for Nigerians to give their children qualitative education, which he described as a legacy that would afford them 'their tomorrow'.

Head, Department of Compensation and Benefits, Zain Telecommunication Limited, Pastor Ajibola Opeoluwa also charged stakeholders in education sector to assist government in creating a conducive environment that would afford children to compete favourably with their peers globally.

While commending the high and moral standard of the school to the resourceful and cordial relationship with parents and the school community, Director of the school, Mrs. Adun Akinyemiju, said there was still room for improvement, provided the government was alert to its responsibilities through effective, constant unscheduled visits from the inspectors division.

She thanked the parents for their contributions and support for the school.

The Principal, Mr. Oladapo Esan, reiterated the need for continued support from government in providing conducive environment that would enable children achieve their goals and bring out the best in them.

He pleaded with parents to appreciate the education they give to their children by paying them unscheduled visit to their schools and assessing their academic performance. "For these children to get there, there must be such stride now and always through constant unscheduled visit to the school to assess the moral, religious and academic performance", he said.

He advised the graduating students to be worthy ambassadors of the school, their parents and the nation alike by working hard to attain an enviable post.

Prizes were awarded to deserving students, parents, as well as teaching and non-teaching staff.
