Kampala — She thought she was the best strategist on the M-Net reality show after having evaded nominations four times in a row.
Then the eviction she imagined was faraway thudded down upon her like a ton of bricks on Sunday night. Ghana's Mimi, after spending 56 days in the Big Brother house and getting romantically involved with Ricco, became the fifth housemate to be evicted after Latoya, Lucille, Uti and Sheila.
Awaiting the bad news in the glass house with eviction hopefuls Tk and Thami, Mimi had managed to keep optimistic until show host KB went: "The fifth housemate to leave the Big Brother house is "
The suspense-laden span KB maintained before mentioning the name took the eviction hopefuls' pulses a notch faster.
But it must have trebled for Mimi, especially when fans attending the live eviction show outside the Big Brother house in South Africa yelled Mimi's name moments before Kabelo confirmed it.
The Ghanaian, not believing the voters had done her in, looked as though she had rammed into a wall.
Answering questions from KB, Mimi was shaky. But after some time, she collected herself and turned up with a consolation line: "I have a good career, I am a bright person, I will move on."
"We were all dangerous players in that house it became hard for me to keep my strategy working," added the biochemist, who said she hoped her culinary skills would win her votes as was the case with Big Brother I winner, Zambia's Cherise Makubale in 2003. Back in the house, Tawana said she was glad Mimi had been evicted because she thought the Ghanaian hated her.
Ricco, with whom Mimi had a fling, got over the eviction rather fast. And as housemates joked about who Ricco would get romantically involved with next, Tawana mooted a new conspiracy theory: that every girl Ricco has had a fling with has been evicted.
Could Ricco's touch have a jinx to it? I mean he had flings with Latoya, Lucille, and now Mimi, all evicted.
Meanwhile the show has taken an interesting twist following the arrival of a new housemate from Big Brother Finland, where Zimbabwe's Munya was whisked off as a reward for excelling in a poverty eradication task.
The 22-year-old arrived during the eviction show on Sunday and spent a night alone in the penthouse. Then yesterday morning, the remaining six housemates were taken aback when Finland's Johan Grahn made an entrance into the Big Brother Africa house disguised as an ice-dredger, with enhanced winter falling into the garden from a machine.
Ricco, who was the first to bond with Johan, felt jealous on knowing that Munya is one of the only two guys sharing living space with six beautiful Finnish girls.
Meanwhile, Munya's first statement to the girls when he got into BB Finland was: "Damn, you are so beautiful," before making himself comfortable.
Will he have forgotten about Tawana by the time he comes back?
