The Story of Africa is a major series from the BBC African Service which looks at the history of the continent from an African perspective. The programmes will run for six months and chart key events from the dawn of humanity in East Africa to the triumph over apartheid in South Africa.

"So often, our history has been told by others," says Bola Olufunwa one of the producers on the project. "Having the chance to produce a series in which we, Africans, can tell our history from our own perspective therefore has been a wonderful and uplifting experience and I hope the series is one which will make Africans proud."

As the series unrolls, we'll be posting each program of the series on this page.
