When I was making my rounds as a campaign worker some years ago in Florida, one student told me that a "Republican is a Democrat with a teenage daughter". It makes sense to me in the case of the present Niger Delta imbrogilo and the failed Biafran attempt to pull out of Nigeria. There were lots of negativities with the Biafran thing. First, the Enugu leadership under Okpara did nothing to improve the relationship between the minorities in the Eastern region and the Ibos. Second, the minorities knew correctly that it "It was better to be a servant in Heaven, than remain a King in Hell". Third, The Hausa soldiers were surprisingly intelligent enough to differentiate between the minority officers from the East and those that were Ibos. I donot know how many of you took notice of the ethnicity of the fallen officers at 6th ballation Ikeja in the counter -Coup. No Ijaw soldiers were killed. Thus, many Ijaws simply claimed, the skewed and incomplete coup-detat (that cleared a majority of the Northern Lordships) was resposnible for the anger of the Hausa soldiers. But, the present trouble in my area makes one to wish that the Ibos and Ijaws had a good relationship. Despite the fact that Ibos cannot fight effectively in the creeks(they have lead on their feet) they may have served us well in other capacities as fighters. You cannot imagine my anger over the Federal govt's efforts in quelling the Freedom fighters.

The problems with leadership in Africa can all be traced back to what I call "Big Men" syndrome, which leads inevitably to personality cultism instead of democratic government.

Big Men are the only men fit to lead tribes.

Big Men are not to be questioned, because they are bigger than you.

Big Men do not get sick.

Big Men do not get old.

And, above all else, Big Men never, ever die.

Africa needs to be cured of its "Big Men" syndrome before it will produce any leaders fit to govern a civilized society, rather than a barbarian one.

[This inspiring poem was featuring in the movie “Coach Carter ”]

Our Deepest Fear Is Not That We Are Inadequate,

Our Deepest Fear Is That We Are Powerful Beyond Measure.

It Is Our Light , Not Our Darkness That Most Frightens Us.

We Ask Ourselves, Who Am I To Be Brilliant, Gorgeous, Talented, And Fabulous ?

Actually Who Are We Not To Be ? You Are A Child Of God.

Your Playing Small Doesn’t Serve The World.

There Is Nothing Enlightened About Shrinking So That Other People Won’t Feel Insecure Around You.

We Are All Meant To Shine, As Children Do.

We Were Born To Make Manifest The Glory Of God That Is Within Us.

It’s Not Just In Some Of Us; It’s In Everyone.

And When We Let Our Own Light Shine We Unconsciously Give Other People Permission To Do The Same.

And As We Are Liberated From Our Own Fear, Our Presence Automatically Liberates Others

- Marianne Williamson -

(Nkosi Sikeleli Africa )

God bless Africa May her glory be lifted high Hear our petitions .

God bless us, Your children God we ask You to protect our nation Intervene and end all conflicts Protect us, protect our nation, our nation.

From the blue of our heaven, From the depths of our sea, Over our eternal mountain ranges, Where the cliffs give answer.

Sounds the call to come together, And united we shall stand, Let us live and strive for freedom, In South Africa our land.

am out of words for such an embarassing remark.i think the pastor ought to check again.just like any continent in the world we do have our fair share of bad leaders.what makes african leaders bad?who encourages bad leaders in the continent?it is an open secret that those with eyes know the answer to. where did all our selfless development concious leaders like kwame nkruma, patrice lumumba etc end up?yet people like mobutu ruled for ages. we mustnt compare ourself so much to the europeans lest we perish cos we cant use their technics to develop like them.if christianity helped spur the industrial revolution in europe doesnt mean that the same can work for us .we look like idiots trying to copy a sysytem we cant fully understand instead of being creative.am sure if the chinese and the indians thought along the same line they could still be third world countries like africa still is today if not worse.they however came up with a system that was painful but worked for them. africa must first find herself and then come up with an african technic that africans understand in order to forge forward. upto now we still trying to understand democracy, when will we start developing ourselves? nelson mandela was african and george w bush wasnt.just to mention afew.

What about Wangari Maathai, Nelson Mandela, and Kofi Annan? It is better to light a candle than rage against the darkness. Better to highlight those who do well than waste breath giving advertising value to those who are corrupt. Asia produced Ghengis Khan and a supposedly enlightened and educated Europe produced Hitler. Selfish leadership is a weakness of all mankind, only in Africa the democratic institutions that restrain the power of leaders are still developing.
