The farm gate price for vanilla has been slashed by sh1,000 to sh3,000 per kilogramme due to a drop in international prices. Philip Betts the managing director of Esco Uganda, one of the local buyers said the prices slowed down because international buyers are anticipating for a bumper harvest in Madagascar this year.
